RBVE is seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Housing and Welfare to provide strategic and operational leadership across housing, welfare, and community services within our unique 72-acre village in Aylesford, Kent.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated leader who is passionate about supporting veterans, their families, and dependants, helping them overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve sustainable independent living.

About the Role

As Assistant Director of Housing and Welfare, you will be responsible for the effective management and delivery of housing, welfare, and community services across RBVE Village. Working closely with residents, colleagues, and external partners, you will ensure our beneficiaries receive high-quality, person-centred support that promotes wellbeing, independence, and positive life outcomes.

You will lead the development and implementation of a welfare framework designed to meet the diverse and often complex needs of our residents. This includes ensuring staff are appropriately trained, supported, and supervised to deliver services safely, confidently, and with empathy.

A key aspect of this role is maintaining the balance between housing management and welfare provision, ensuring residents are supported both practically and emotionally while creating a safe, inclusive, and thriving community environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for housing, welfare, and community services across RBVE Village, ensuring residents receive exceptional support and tenancy services.
  • Lead the development and delivery of housing and welfare strategies that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for veterans and their families.
  • Build strong partnerships with local authorities, housing providers, support agencies, and veteran organisations to enhance services and opportunities for residents.
  • Oversee housing operations, including tenancy management, allocations, rent performance, resident engagement, and the successful delivery of new housing developments.
  • Champion safeguarding, resident welfare, and community engagement, ensuring support services effectively meet the complex and evolving needs of beneficiaries.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and outstanding customer service.
  • Manage budgets, performance reporting, and service delivery to ensure the effective and sustainable operation of housing and welfare services.
  • Drive the development of a vibrant, inclusive community where residents are empowered to thrive and achieve greater independence.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate leader who is passionate about supporting veterans and delivering high-quality housing and welfare services.

You will have:

  • A relevant housing qualification (CIH) or housing management experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering welfare, support, or community services.
  • A strong understanding of housing regulation and best practice in England.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and performance management skills.
  • The ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring services remain customer-focused and deliver value for money.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting veterans and an understanding of the challenges they may face.

Desirable experience includes a management qualification, partnership working with local authorities, knowledge of the charity sector, and experience in risk management.
